Why do we need Oxygen?

 

We need Oxygen so that our organs can work properly. So that our cells can function properly. Because it is like fuel to our body

How does Oxygen get from the air into our blood?

 

This happens in the lungs. The air is pumped. It travels through the nose and mouth, down the windpipe into the smaller and smaller tubes. At the end of these are lots of little air sacks. Around these air sacs are blood vessels where the Oxygen goes from the air to the blood.

How many air sacks are there in our lungs?

 

600 million

 
4.

What happens when someone has an asthma attack?

 

Air tubes swell and clog up making breathing hard work. This makes people cough and wheeze.

 
5.

What happens to people who are allergic to pollen?

 

They sneeze, get a runny nose and itchy eyes.

What is carbon dioxide?
 

A waste gas that gets carried by the blood back into the lungs and is then breathed out.
