What are the children's page about?

These are 5 interactive pages that introduce the functioning of the lungs and asthma. They are aimed at children from ages 8 - 10 years old.

The idea is that these pages can be used by children on their own - if they want - so we have included cartoons, word searches and a quiz to make the process more enjoyable.

We hope these pages can also be used as a teaching aide. This teaching materials page includes some simple, downloadable data from all the children who took part in the 'Asthma in Ashford' Study. All data has been anonymised but we hope it will be more interesting for children to have 'real' data when learning about spreadsheets and graphs.

There is also a more complex quiz for use in the classroom based on all the information found on the kids pages.

  Data to download
This information is based on a study investigating the causes of childhood asthma. Data was collected from 642 children from birth through to 6 years old in Ashford, Kent. The data reflects the current beliefs about possible environmental causes of asthma such as exposure to house dust mite, cat dander and other aeroallergens. Please click on the house icon top left of the page if you would like more complete information on the study.
