Heraklion
is the largest city in Crete, an island of remarkable
contrasts: blazing sunshine on the coast and snow-capped
mountains across the middle. About a third of the population
live in the countryside where they farm goats and grow
olives and oranges. We planned a different kind of study
here: we wanted to know if children brought up in the
villages were less likely to get allergies that those
who had been brought up in Heraklion. It looks like
this is the case and we are investigating why. |
